I don't understand rejection, I never tried to begin with

Sometimes I read about rejections and how some were rejected by their crushes and women in general, but for me this never happened because I never even tried, I always had low self-esteem, I always knew it was over, even in potential situations I decided to walk away because I didn't want to face disappointments, I was aware of my low potential, I really don't understand how you guys did it, were you confident with your looks? I wasn't, I always hated the way I looked.
