You point out that meritocracy is false and that most of us are never going to ascend in the socioeconomic hierarchy, to which some people respond along the lines of "Read Rich Dad, Poor Dad".

You point out that nobody ever gives you a chance to present yourself and show them how fun, smart and interesting you can be, the response to which is something like "Read How to Win Friends and Influence People".

How are those books supposed to change my subpar looks and neurodivergent brain that always sabotages me while in public?

People who tell you to read should be shot

Lmao that's a scam book. The only good advice is boggle tier.

The Carnegie one gets recommended often too. It's a social technique book, I haven't bothered reading it since I'm socially rejected at first glance and it doesn't apply to me.

Brb reading 48 laws of power rn

Books are sold to cumsoooomers for profit

Relatable thread. I have always abhorred these self-help books and services and those who read them. They so often advertise life-altering effects, but this is so evidently untrue. If they genuinely did have any substantial effects, you would see swathes of people become noticeably more well-liked, productive, wealthy, etc. but this is not the case. Most people's life trajectory is largely capped by factors outside of their control. People just read these books because they desperately want to believe that they have lots of control over improving their lives, and can improve their lives easily just by reading some book.

those are garbage ass books indeed :smonk:
