It's absurd, that's the perfect word for it. Most of the traffic of the internet is concentrated to a few sites, and those sites get to pick and choose what is allowed or not. And they can just say "it's our platform, our rules, go elsewhere", when in fact 99% of discussion can only take place on those platforms because that's where everybody is. But they're all strictly controlled and censored.
It's mind-boggling really. It's getting to idiotic levels. Even places meant for discussing games and other silly things are so heavily restricted. Follow all 150 rules or your post gets deleted, or you can even get permabanned.
And don't even think of saying things that aren't politically correct, those things will get you banned in most places. Not even edgy jokes. For example, on the WoW subreddit I made a joke that consisted of only a few words, I was responding to I don't remember what with "so they're like Jews?". I got banned for 1 day. Seems reasonable. Then a week or two later I get banned permanently, for the same comment as before, one that I deleted right away almost.
It's all so tiresome really. Even what used to be bastions of free speech are now controlled shitholes, like 4chan, where I'm permabanned.
