I believe Jacques Vallee is probably right with his theories that says all religions and folklore and the subject of cryptids, angels and demons, UFO’s etc is not as it seems.
All of it is simply a control system to keep humanity from stagnating intellectually and culturally.
In other words the purported control system or trickster intelligence putting competing stories out there is the entire point or as Shakespeare once put it…
“The play is the thing”.
So if someone meets Jesus, encounters Bigfoot, has a humorous experience with a gnome etc.
All of it was simply caused to happen by the trickster intelligence or control system to put a story out there to either cause us to evolve or prevent us from stagnating.
