I see this behavior even on this site. For example, users who rant nonstop about how much they hate faggots will instantly defend a faggot user just because they personally like him.
It’s not hypocrisy though. It’s simply how the human brain operates and adapts to situations. Morals, beliefs, and ideologies aren’t meant to be convictions. They’re just masks. People switch one mask for another whenever it helps them gain leverage.
That’s why you should never trust what people claim to believe. At the end of the day, everyone is self-serving and will discard whatever they said the moment it benefits them.
