Discussion How would you feel if this site became widely popular?

I've noticed there are typically only between 100-200 active users on this site at a given time. Now I want you to imagine instead of 100-200 users, there were 10,000-20,000 users active at a time. I wonder what the site would be like.

I personally think the site would be better for it. There'd be way more content to engage with and your posts would get more attention to them. With how many active and frequent users here get banned or simply stop posting, this place often feels empty. Not to mention it feels like most new members don't stick around very long.

I'm very grateful this site exists despite its flaws, but I still wish it hosted a much bigger community. Sometimes it just seems too small.

More users wouldn’t necessarily make the site better. Most people would just water down the content with low-effort posts, and the influx would most certainly be due to normies. The site being small is its strength. You actually get to know the regulars and the discussions stay focused. If it blew up to 10k+ active users, it would just become another social media hellhole full of normie distractions. Although, there are some upsides to more users.

The site being small is its strength. You actually get to know the regulars and the discussions stay focused. If it blew up to 10k+ active users, it would just become another social media hellhole full of normie distractions. Although, there are some upsides to more users.

That's true. A small user base does allow us to forms stronger connections. It's just so many users have been banned or left. I wish I could interact with more people

I think it has it's benefits, because you can do more with more people. And new people bring new ideas.

But, it has to scale in a way that there is enough mods - and overall control over the site. The last thing i want is this place to be infested with normies like what happend to 4chan with unregulated access.

Honestly with how high the turnover rate is, I never saw the population size as a big issue since there’s always new users coming in. It can be slow some days but I feel like there’s enough people to keep it active but small enough to where you can know people.

Probably more than half of the current user base will be banned or gone within the next year and a half or so.

I like the aesthetic of the site. A small yet communal place for like-minded individuals to talk to the only other people who can begin to understand them. I like this site to be niche, i don't want it to go mainstream.
I think the ideal would be 700-1000 active users, otherwise it will turn into chaotic bullshit just like .org
