One word - Frisson

I don't have a type or genre that I exclusively prefer, it all depends on whether the music triggers a "frisson response" for me, that determines whether I download it and keep listening to it. So my music folders are pretty mixed up.

Of course there are some artists that tend to have a lot of songs that trigger that response and those are the artists whose albums I'll download.

Disturbed (rock band) is a good example:
Mistress is a good one, but if I would say top two for inducing Frisson, I would say (Prayer & Decadence):

Prayer:

Decadence:

View: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-daTpfB-7K4

Decadence is a really good one too because of the lyrics. I don't think there's a song where the lyrics fits my life (or the black pill itself) so perfectly:

Word Meaning:
Decadence - "moral or cultural decline as characterized by excessive indulgence in pleasure or luxury."

Lyrics:
Say, yes they know that you fought yourself another time
Don't they know that you're full of pain already?
Yes, they know that you've hurt yourself another time
Decadence isn't easy, is it?

Yes, they know that you've hurt yourself another time
Don't they know that you're full of pain already?
Yes they know that you've hurt yourself another time
Decadence isn't easy

Then you slowly recall all your mind
Why your soul's gone cold and all hope has run dry?
Dead inside
Never enough to forget that you're one of the lonely
Slowly recall all your mind

Say, yes, they know that you've hurt yourself another time
Don't they know that you're full of pain already?
Yes, they know that you've hurt yourself another time
Decadence isn't easy, is it?

Yes, they know that you've hurt yourself another time
Don't they know that you're full of pain already?
Yes, they know that you've hurt yourself another time
Decadence isn't easy

Then you slowly recall all your mind
Why your soul's gone cold and all hope has run dry?
Dead inside
Never enough to forget that you're one of the lonely
Slowly recall all your mind

If I scare you now
Don't run from me
I've been hiding my pain, you see
Said if I scare you now
Don't run from me
I've been hiding my pain, you see

Slowly recall all your mind
Why your soul's gone cold and all hope has run dry?
Dead inside
Never enough to forget that you're one of the lonely
Slowly recall all your mind
Slowly recall all your mind

Say, yes they know that you've hurt yourself another time
Don't they know that you're full of pain already?
Yes, they know that you've hurt yourself another time
Decadence isn't easy, is it?

What is more black pilled than that?

There are some rap songs too that I get Frisson from:
Trippy Red - Demon Time:

Yeat - Sorry Bout That:

View: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YLlB1RYrP3k

It might have something to do with some mental reference I'm making that I associate the song with, along with whatever melodies are in the beat, I don't know, but Frisson just makes the song really enjoyable. It's also very useful for keeping yourself focused while doing boring/monotonous tasks for wealthmaxxing.

That's really what I use music for, I don't just casually listen to music, I'm always doing some wealthmaxxing task when I'm listening to these songs.

Oh here are another good two songs that should induce Frisson that are of a similar genre (not sure what to call them though):
Calvin Harris - Pray To God ft HAIM:

View: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8FOBxcluXdk

I really want to fuck that red head in the video. Like I'm kind of obsessed. I always had a thing for red heads though lol.

Florence & The Machine - Seven Devils:

View: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yJL5SE1i0u4

I just played a small part of the song while starting up the video and I'm already getting Frisson. This one is one of my favs, found it years ago. I was listening to this when I was still in school.

Anime music is definitely included in the list too (obviously):
Full Metal Alchemist - Brotherhood (Golden Time Lover Opening)

Death Note Opening:

shazam, recommendation playlist, yotube music tab and spotify mix of the week. i always listen trough it and if i like some songs i add them to the playlist.

Whatever gives me the groove.

Burzum, listen to Ea, Lord of the depths and Dunkelheit

Whatever gives me the groove.
Tbh. Anything that makes me feel excited. I use it alot whilst working out.

I know it might sound childish and autistic to others. But whenever I hear a song I like for the first time. I get this overwhelming urge to run and jump around. Is this normal? I can never listen to music and sit calmly. I had to be moving my body someway. Maybe it's my autism. Idk. This is why I workout better when I listen to music because I'm in my own world and could care less about the normies surrounding me. My imagination goes haywire and I start creating visualisers for the song. Like I'm in the music video and I'm the artist.

I also notice I am much more low inhibition when I'm listening to music in public.

I listen to mostly instrumentals,OST, beats and rap. Those give me the most "frisson"

I didn't notice it before but a lot of music I like is of the sad and/or angsty type with a penchant for abstraction. I do like all the anime songs u mentioned. FMAB has great music overall.

FMAB has great music overall.
One of the best soundtracks period. It was like some guy said - "give me all the frisson music", it's crazy. They probably have similar tastes as I do. If I don't get that frisson response from a song I don't even bother with it, so all the music I listen to is "melodic" in some way and has harmonies. I'm basically using it like a drug tbh lol.

It's perfect for when you are trying to zone one and complete long monotonous tasks. I only really listen to music when I'm working on projects (wealthmaxxing).

Where is the "good part" of the song?

You see there are some songs that I don't even like, but the chorus or the hook can redeem the song, and you can listen to the rest just to "hear that part".

For example, there may be a song where the verses aren't that good, but the chorus is great and causes that "brain tingle" response (frisson).

This song "Ea, Lord of the depths" has "nothing to it". It's just screaming and noise.

It doesn't sound "nice" in any way, it's grating, it's a few degree short of just scraping nails against a chalkboard lol.

At what point in those songs does your body signal to you "this feels good"?

That's what I mean.

Sometimes I feel like some of you just listen to certain kinds of music because "it sounds angry, and I'm angry so I like it", but you don't ACTUALLY like it.

It's like someone who eats vegetables because "it keeps me healthy" but your tastebuds don't give a positive response, you don't like the taste and you know that.

There was this friend of mine (died years ago) that introduced me "Metal" rock through disturbed. I was making all the cliche jokes about it just being screaming and that was until he argued with me for a while, played me a few songs (Prayer was one of them, it's in the post of this thread), and I listened to some more.

Then I was hooked, but that's only because a lot of their songs induce Frisson. They are a very melodic band, there's a lot of harmony, the lead vocalist has an amazing voice, etc.

It's not just a bunch of random screaming and loud sounds that grate against your ears.

I'LL GIVE YOU A PASS ON Dunkelheit (It has potential, but they ruined it lol)

There's too much distortion. The music quality sounds like it's getting drowned out, the melodic parts especially, and the vocals can barely be understood.

IDK what this genre is called (I think it's "heavy metal") but it literally defeats the purpose of music :feelskek:.

I can't really hear the music (because of excessive distortion)

I can't really hear the lyrics (because of excessive distortion)

I can't really hear any melodies or harmonies (because of excessive distortion)

If they took off all the distortion they'd probably blow up and be more famous like Disturbed, because it would drastically increase the quality of their music

I used to be a big sperg about music, even wasted years of my life moderating a music forum (JFL @ myself).
Now I just search for a specific feeling that music can still bring me - to feel aware and at ease with the ugly reality of the world, to bring me back to first view perspective and ready to fight for my will.
That's likely the reason nowadays I mostly listen to music whenever I want to exercise, mainly MMA/grappling trainings.
Since I became more blackpill aware I started to despise 99% of music with singing in it (if it's in a language I can understand), so for a couple of years I have mostly listened to russian music because I can't understand the lyrics.

Most of what I listen to is loosely called (ironically) russian "doomer" music:

The only english band I currently have in my list is Mission of Burma, the lyrics don't bother me.

This one is exactly the type of feeling I search for in music, it makes me want to fight and feel ready to fight:

You need to watch the Supernatural TV Series, you'll find a lot of songs that you like.

This one is one of my favs (A LOT of 90's and 80's music causes a Frisson response, that's the reason why I prefer that era of music):

View: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2X_2IdybTV0

Also the music you listen too really just sounds like 80's and 90's music. I have to say that was the best era of music. Music today just doesn't sound as melodic.

There's one thing you said that I disagree with, it's something I notice among incels when it comes to music:
Since I became more blackpill aware I started to despise 99% of music with singing in it
It's almost like you're letting normies and society take away yet another thing that should be yours to enjoy.

"This music sounds "too happy" so I should avoid it, I need to listen to things that "sound dark" because of my life"

What you are doing is basically what this guy did to himself too :feelskek:, except he went way further than you did. There's no melody or harmony in that music at all, it's just nails on a chalkboard, they distorted that "music" all the way to the landfill zone, it's garbage :feelskek:
Burzum, listen to Ea, Lord of the depths and Dunkelheit

You still have great taste in music though, you haven't gone all the way to the point of screening out anything that "sounds good" for the sake of being "counter culture" or listening to music "that reflects your reality".

I swear a lot of incels listen to trash because "it sounds dark" or because "it makes them feel edgy", and that's just retarded. There's some music that I will never genuinely believe that person enjoys it, they'd have to show me a video of their brain scan while listening to it for me to believe it :feelskek:.

I'm a hateful "evil" fuck, that doesn't mean I'm going to now torture my eardrums with trash music.

That's the logical equivalent of saying I can only now fap to scat porn :feelskek:.

Oh shit almost forgot about this one, this is one of my favs, it's so good:

View: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dy4HA3vUv2c

This song is about suicide btw, and yet listen to how good it sounds. Something doesn't have to sound like trash to "be dark". In fact it's more "sinister" in a way if it "sounds good" but has a dark message behind it.

Now compare it to this:

No, I don't rule out music based on "ideological" grounds, I just can't stomach some of the stuff I used to listen to (too emotional shit).
I listen to "uplifting" songs, but it bothers me a lot to listen to stupid lyrics.

In fact hiphop and rap lyrics are some of the ones that bother me the least.

For me it does
Sometimes I feel like some of you just listen to certain kinds of music because "it sounds angry, and I'm angry so I like it", but you don't ACTUALLY like it.
I do genuinely like these songs, yes they sound edgy and I like that kind of stuff but I do like the music. I am very staunch when it comes to music I don't like.

Listen to this cover then, it has less distortion and focuses more on the melodic parts.

It's a good song, I like both overtly distorted edgy black music but this is also nice.

I will admit I don't really pay attention to the lyrics that much

It's funny how much this sounds like a disturbed song now. I could actually listen to this if the band had more melodic vocals. Distortion is really killing this black metal genre lol. Someone could really blow up and make a lot of money by stealing these black metal bands music and changing it to be metal :feelskek:.

One of the sad parts of getting older for me is that there is less great music to discover. I mostly listen to old music and I've rarely come across a song nowadays that has given me goosebumps

I'm sure if you look up some "best of the 90's" or "best of the 80's" videos you'll find some good ones, and from there you can go through the albums of those specific artists.

You shouldn't run out quickly at all.

This song gives me frisson everytime I listen to it, it's very beautiful

It sounds good but I'm not really getting any frisson. I may be missing what is required to get a frisson response from this music.

One thing I notice about frisson is that an element of it is the mental associations you have to certain sounds or visuals. So maybe due to the visuals in the video (or visuals associated to the origin of the music that you've seen), or certain melodies or sounds in the music, appeal to you in some way and are triggering that response.

I don't have those mental assocations.

For example, this song:

View: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zlpkBBOBLgY
I think I know exactly why I like this one. It reminds me of the kind of music you hear in rpg games (the bells in it and the pattern for the bells). Sounds like something straight out of a rpg game if you take out the rap music elements.

A song is more likely to generate a frisson response if it reminds me of rpg game sounds effects, rpg game music, anime, anime music, etc.

You posted literal trash :feelskek:. This is the worst post in the thread so far, I half think you are joking right now.

If you are listening to music to stroke yourself off via your ego I feel sorry for you.

Sounds like you are listening to music to "feel smart" rather than to actually "enjoy listening to music".

I only really listen to music when I'm working on tasks related to wealthmaxxing, and I want to zone out and increase my efficiency while not getting bored.

So trying to "feel smart" isn't a priority for me lol. I need the music to "sound good" and make me "feel good", so that I can immerse myself in the task for hours.

Sure dude, Brecker and Coltrane the two greatest tenor players ever are "trash". I'll make sure to value your opinion on music from here on.

I like hearing great improvisation and high skill on an instrument... not the result of a soundcloud hack playing around on a computer program.

Yeah and "the wheel" and "fire" were pretty great "inventions" at the time they were discovered, but as time goes on the marvelous becomes the mundane as newer things are discovered and improvements are made.

Nobody is amazed by fire or a wheel today. Classical music sounds bland and boring because modern music has taken what classical music created, and taken it to new heights, creating new sounds, frequencies, etc.

If you think the musicians of the past wouldn't be using all these modern tools too if they had access to it, you're crazy. They'd be experimenting with it like crazy.

You won't apply that logic to sex, food or anything else.

If a woman you were having sex with was doing a bunch of impressive techniques but you still couldn't orgasm, you wouldn't give a fuck about how impressive it is lol.

If a chef was using all these impressive chef skills to prepare a meal, but it tasted subpar to fast food you could have bought for less money, you aren't going to give a fuck about how impressive his chef skills are.

Maybe you are one of those retards that will go to a "high end" restaurant and pay hundreds for a plate that looks like this to stroke your ego, but not all of us are that retarded:
c09ef1d0b01c061215e899262a8e1e44.jpg

"I appreciate the artistry of the chefs who inherited the recipes of X random famous french fucker who died 100 years ago, I feel so fancy eating this shit :soy:"

Ego blinds people to the obvious. Results are all that matter, I don't care about any perceived "greatness". If something is great it will yield the desired results.

If something is only "great" because you believe "it should be seen as great" then that's just you trying to force your ego onto reality, but it won't change reality.

Music is not about logic. It's about expressing yourself
and simply liking the music for how it sounds and how it makes you feel. Art dosen't necessarily need to have logic and analysis. No one is listening to music for logic. Wtf.

Your one of those mfs that say they watch p0rn for the storyline. Get the fuck on outta here

Are they any good music forums that exist? Not on Reddit.

If it's making me daydream about scenarios were I am about to defeat my bullies, I like the song because it's badass and gives me energy. Yes, I also come up with aesthetic visualizations if I truly like the song. My imagination goes elsewhere and I'm in my own parallel universe. It's what I love about music. When I put those headphones in. I'm in a different world. My own world.

One of the best aspects about having autism tbh

It's about expressing yourself
How does listening to garbage mumble rap express yourself? You're a blatant fakecel if you can relate to any of those lyrics.

Meanwhile you're lecturing me on music while linking that trash, are you trying to be ironic here? :lul:

A good sign of someone who knows they don't have a leg to stand on, is that they create strawman arguments.

Where did he say anything about "relating to the lyrics"?

Who decided that "expressing yourself" = "I relate to the lyrics"?

Why would you think he's talking about the lyrics when your example of good music is classical music (which has no lyrics)?

You are just being disingenuous.

The instrumental is complex and sound great to me. I could care less about the lyrics but the sound of the music alone is enough for me to express myself through it.

Take playboi carti for example. Hes lyrics are usually very simple and basic SoundCloud rapper stuff and sometimes literally mumbles in his songs. Even his cult fanbase made a meme about him speaking "cartinese". However it's the instrumental, his voice and his flow that makes it feel amazing. Were humans. Inherently were not logical. We just want to 'feel' something. That's the human experience.

I would rather listen to carti than a very skilled, lyrical and logical rapper. Because if that skilled, logical and lyrical rapper can't make me feel some type of way. Then I simply don't care.

To be honest, I would say the biggest part of making a song good is the instrumental. Because it truly is the foundation for the song. And it's the sound that activate brain patterns that make you able to express yourself and feel good. Next is the voice, and then the flow. If you have a great voice and can flow on the instrumental. Then that all you need. For it to be catchy. That's why mumble rappers are so popular nowadays. And I honestly don't mind. I think they're best musicians to ever come out. Because at the very end of the day. No matter how ignorant it may sound to you.

All that matters is the song sounding 'lit'
You can try fight it and lie to yourself by saying music is about logic to make yourself feel classy but it truly isn't. It's an art form to express yourself and it dosen't need to make sense. It's like a dream.

Your the type of guy to lie about liking novels, golf, expensive pantomime shows at posh theaters because it makes you feel classy and mature. But you know what you want deep inside.

If I can relate to the lyrics and the beat isnt outer garbage I'll like it

I often listen to stuff that I heard in the background of a movie, and then went and looked up the name of the song and I probably enjoy it more because of the association with the scene from the film, like I believe this is played during the diner scene in Wolf of Wall Street where Jordan recruits some of his hometown guys

Whatever gives me the groove.
same
I didn't notice it before but a lot of music I like is of the sad and/or angsty type with a penchant for abstraction. I do like all the anime songs u mentioned. FMAB has great music overall.
One of the sad parts of getting older for me is that there is less great music to discover. I mostly listen to old music and I've rarely come across a song nowadays that has given me goosebumps
true, also taste becomes more and more specific. but nofap helped me with issue to some degree
Same. My music folder is comprised almost entirely of RPG game music.

I noticed that I really like music from Synths, I think the genre is called synth pop.

I listen to that while working lots of time
Music is not about logic. It's about expressing yourself
and simply liking the music for how it sounds and how it makes you feel. Art dosen't necessarily need to have logic and analysis. No one is listening to music for logic. Wtf.

Your one of those mfs that say they watch p0rn for the storyline. Get the fuck on outta here
yes. Niggas coping thinking it is some logical math bullshit

yeah he is probably one of the upstuck poltards who thinks of himself as being an intellectual behemoth :lul:.

personally I listen to music from various places. but mostly Jap/ameriMUTT with bit of Korean/chink/curry here and there. mostly action rock/synthwave music but I go thru lots of genres depending on mood. also when I find a good song, I mostly spam it and go thru the artists other songs looking for gems

Just because you don't like it, doesn't mean everyone dislikes it.

I get frisson from most of my music, and most of my music is death metal and black metal. It does sound good to me.

Sometimes I feel like some of you just listen to certain kinds of music because "it sounds angry, and I'm angry so I like it", but you don't ACTUALLY like it.
I'll admit to having my core phase. I've outgrown it, and outgrown core. Yet I still enjoy metal, because it sounds good.

And if you think all metal sounds angry, then you clearly know shit about it.

:feelsseriously::feelsseriously: It's called training your ears. If you listen to metal long enough, you pick up on the music and melodies. It's the same process as training your ears to listen to classical.

And as for lyrics, who gives a shit, it's a song, not a poetry slam. :feelshaha:

Please don't jokingly compare classical to that shit. I don't even like classical music and I can tell that these two aren't in the same league. Also people don't train their ears to LISTEN to classical, it's very audible, they train their ears to UNDERSTAND classical (sound, notes, patterns, instruments, etc).

Don't try to justify trash.

Some genres literally just exist, not because they sound good, but because they were created to be "counter culture". It's just there to be "edgy".

I listen to eurobeat (due to my love to anime), hardstyle, post punk like Molchat Doma and soft rock e.g. Phil Collins depending on how I feel
but my my fav song is still

Yeah, ok. :feelsseriously: You're very clearly set in your very wrong ways. It's not illegal to be wrong, though, so carry on with your ways.
