Never played a horror game that was scary. Not once. Only movies and literature have been able to do horror well for me.

Same here. Games haven't ever been scary to me. Movies, TV Shows, and Books are where it is at. 
For me dead space on x360 was stressfully scary

I was never actually genuinely scared playing a video game, plenty of them have done an excellent job creating an immersive, tense, unsettling environment though.
They are different mediums that do horror different ways, you can’t have a jump scare in a book for example.

Foids lives are so easy that they need "horror" to feel hardship for the first time in their pathetic lives
only Cry of Fear really worked as a horror game for me and it was a mod made by some dude in his basement
Exmortis used to scare me, but I find the games more creepy than scary now
exmortis is a thowback holy shit that soundtrack used to scare the shit out of me

Try playing a horror game on a vr headset
legit just jumpscares. you need the ambiance and the feeling of being killed because that makes it more real. but dont overdo it to the point of it not being scary. you don't need jumpscares for an good horror game
