If you have setup VR or developed anything for it, you know how annoying/complicated/incompatible things are.

Setting it as a regular user (non developer) is hard enough. You bought some fancy 5090 GPUs just to play VR. So you settle down and set it up, do I need to plug it in to install or not? Airlink or regular link? Why is there a VR only setting UI?

Why are there TWO softwares to adjust VR settings? Why does users have to choose games on VR? Why can't it be like regular steam, that you put on the headset ONLY when you are playing a VR game?

Now, as a developer. In unreal or unity, select plugins only support a few devices. And usually fails to detect the HMD.

Once it detected the HMD, now onto trying to get it to detect the controllers....good luck.

There's also plugins that are not constantly updated, forcing you to downgrade the game engine. (Looking at you meta XR).

Moving? It's also much harder to get right with the point-to-move system. WASD/mouse look is way simpler.

There's also that you have to put on the HMD every time you test the game, and the HMD have to be charged very oftenly.

Oh and, if you keep it idle for too long it shut down, forcing you to restart it.

And that is, if Meta's stupid link app doesn't stop endlessly loading.

I've never seen a category of gadget so unfriendly to users and developers alike, and so buggy that it makes installing python scripts look easy.

Agreed. To add on to what you said, fuck mobile VR. I tried it on several different phones and I always experienced problems, mainly being gyroscope drift and calibration issues. It was a pain in the ass so I said fuck it why even bother and returned my VR viewer :feelsree:

Yeah, setting up a VR requires you to have a programmer level and dedication of debugging, on older devices. New devices are better now still requires constant googling.

The reliant on gyroscopes is prone to bugs. AR is extremely difficult to get right, hence, it's still very choppy even for the most established title/devices. Oh and wireless is famously bad for gaming.

Don't bother with it...there's a reason VR is dead and developers hate it.

VR is like these hyped up 3D glasses for TVs in late 2000s-early 2010s

Imagine accidentally tripping and pulling on the cables and wrecking your motherboard's ports and the PC yanks to the floor too. I would just kms (kill my ass)

what problem are we trying to solve with VR, again?

I came close to buying a Quest 3 but talked myself out of it last second. I think I made the right choice.

I mainly want to use one for porn, but the amount of good VR porn I assume is minimal. And I know VR gaming sucks and is not worth the bother, I've tried it.

yeah, i never bothered with VR for many reasons including this

gaming experiences have not been perfected and are in fact going backwards, there's no reason to go into VR and complicate shit for everyone (players and devs) even more when just normal gaming has this many problems, from retarded designers to betatest-level game engines like ue5

Valve tried making the fist big VR game with Half Life Alyx and it wasn't as good at having everyone else interested in playing and improving VR games like they thought it would tbh

yes, even though they deployed the cope that "this game has to be VR and can't be played on a normal PC at all" even though it was playable with mods, talk about forcing the issue
