I think mine was free ( I don't remember) but you still have to pay to get dressed up (rent a tuxedo or whatever).
One time in high school I was required to go to a dance, and they locked us all in this ballroom for 4 hours, so I just sat at a table and watched the normies dance for 4 hours. It was torturous. It's not that I wanted to dance, I just didn't want to be there at all.
Nothing like wasting large amounts of money to be humiliated only to come up and further be berated and shamed when you get home by your parents because you didn't enjoy yourself.
Some of the teachers who were there to overlook the event tried to coax the rejects into dancing.
lol same happened to me once but it was middle school and highschool in the same party (the school I went to had students from all ages, which is normal in my country). Thankfully I found some ppl playing UNO in a corner and I ended up joining them later.

My high school prom was 160 dollars, so I choose not to go, not like there would have been anyone who wanted to dance with me.
