Social Darwinism can only make sense if the traits selected for are useful for the evolution of the species.
Looks do imply healthy genes, but they do not really guarantee genetic health generations down.
What is happening seems to be a fisherian runaway pattern of choice, where the foids just choosing what is deemed "sexy yet not really evolutionary beneficial" ad infinitum.

sexual selection is more important these days cause we arent fighting for survival

Also, I like Fisher runaway hypothesis but I think it is mostly accounted for by the sensory bias hypothesis.
