Haven't played Black Mesa yet....honestly, I found HL2 to be overrated for the most part, except for episode 1. Both Portals are pretty great.

I played it back in the mid 2010s. But it was an eye patch and pirate version. Now, almost a decade later, I own it legally, and can finally play its mods. Could never get them to work in the past. Pretty sure Steam was the only way to execute them.

They gave out the first Half Life for free around the same time last year. Don't think it was the original source engine though. It was an updated engine instead, so you couldn't run mods on it. Pretty sure this scenario is different.
