It seems the Soviets just produced slop, although 7N6 is said to have great wounding profiles.

The 5.45 seems to lack velocity which is important for armor piercing

Choosing 5.45 over 5.56 is a balance between controllability, terminal ballistics, and platform durability. 5.45 has lighter projectile and tumbling effect has effective wounding at typical engagement ranges with more reduced recoil, improving rapid fire accuracy and shooter endurance.
5.56 delivers higher muzzle energy and flatter trajectories, especially with advanced loads, 5.45 is better where ammo availability, reduced recoil, and weapon longevity are priorities.

They're about the same when it comes to muzzle velocity, depends on what kind of cartridge you use as well, there are a lot of them for different purposes.

i don't think it's that different, then also ruskis have a lot of calibers and are less obsessed with using one cartridge for anything

5.45x39 - average rounds for medium range
7.62x54 - armor piercing at long range
9x39 - silent killer at short range :feelsdevil:
12.7x55 - silent killer at medium range :feelsdevil:
