As we all know, the divide between attractive and ugly is one of the most blatantly unfair inequalities in our world today, right up there with parent and child for the amount of abuse and psychological that flies merrily under the radar of modern society. But with the future potential of genetic engineering, is there potential for this injustice to be waived away within the next 40-50 years?
If all men and foids ranked similar in terms of attraction, not only would attractive partners be much easier to find for the average person, but attraction on an individual level would be far less based on unchangeable traits, and far more based on subjective individual things like personality, interests, likes and dislikes.
But like actually. foids wouldn't be lying.
Also I feel like people would be far more open to associating with poors or more socially outcast people, because while in this world social dominance and submission and undesirables may still exist, physical attraction i feel hits a certain threshold of "good enough" in brains where people are more willing to be open in general and just experiment. People are already sometimes open to that kinda, but not nearly enough and we could easily amplify this trait. I don't buy the idea that people would just lift their standards even more when everyone is already pornstarified.
My one fear is that it may make marriage obsolete, as sex would be too easy to come by for most to the point of not needing to lock anybody down with a marriage contract. However I also feel like the opportunity for the average/below average person to engage with more partner would lead to more subjective, honest, and interpersonal relationships that are harder to break, closer to the idea of true love.
I feel like the current landscape of sex is similar to the situation with food 1000 years ago. Most people were getting by on wheat and fish, but a few fat kings ate 4 chickens a day, and back then everyone dreamed of eating four chickens a day but there wasn't enough rainfall to support that. Most people had all the food and everyone else was getting by on potatoes. There were all sorts of rituals that people claimed would bring rainfall and have the spirits of the harvest look down gracefully on you all sorts of rituals, while others just claimed that if you work hard on your farm as possible you can move up, and stop being a peasent. But really all that matters is how close your land is to the river, which you can't change. Then 50-80 years ago the green revolution rolled around and now we have massive fields of wheat, industrial farming, mass production, and international trade, and now every has enough food to eat (sort of). There's no rituals, there's no crazy work ethic demanded of you, and while luxury dining still exists, the vast majority of people are completely satisfied with what they've got at their local grocery store because they have an almost endless variety to choose from (in the US and Canada at least). People from the 1400s could only dream of having the amount of spices we have at only a 1-3km drive away to the local walmart for a few dozens cents a packet, so there's not much upward progression to be had. It could be the same with sex.
Much like we've conquered (or semi-conquered) war, disease, and crime, we will conquer lust, and improve the lives of billions once again, also maybe cosmetic surgery will be a lot cheaper. IDk
