Anyway, I obviously don't know for sure what happened here, but I'd still bet dollars to doughnuts that he asked her out, she got creeped out because he was ugly (or just not good looking enough) and stopped talking to him. Of course the implication here is that the guy did something wrong.
One thing I found out the hard way is if you ask our a girl in your friend group, there is a good chance she's going to become uncomfortable and distant around you afterwards.
Oh, and of course everyone else in the friend group is going to find out. That will ALWAYS happen. And these days there's a chance of getting put on blast on social media as well. Things like this damage your reputation. Even back when I was doing a lot of cold (and warm) approaching, having a reputation for being "that guy who asks out every girl" was really bad. These days it's even worse, because not only are you a "loser" and a "creep", you're also a potential predator.
