It's good that the US at least doesn't have conscription. Willingly joining the military is a terrible decision in my opinion as you willingly put yourself in places with borderline Down's syndrome people, unless you have relatives in the military who can give you better positions than cannon fodder. My country has penis tax (conscription), but you can do stuff to dodge it.
Either way, you made the right call by leaving the military.
