[UWSL]I watched [/UWSL]Gankutsuou: The Count of Monte Cristo[UWSL] the last week, a part of my journey to find all the hidden gems of the medium as I've exhausted most of the classics worth watching. This was a very profound and enthralling thriller revenge story that made you captivated by every little detail on par with Monster I watched just last year.[/UWSL]
[UWSL]Very surprising that so few have watched it for such an intricately crafted tale.[/UWSL]
[UWSL]It was a complete masterpiece: incredible story and impressive visuals to match that doesn't look that dated from being from 2004, expected for studio Gonzo that made Hellsing and Gantz, had a beautiful soundtrack accompany it, the performances of the VAs' for the English Dub were decent, and was a faithful adaption of one of the greatest adventure classic novels, the [/UWSL][UWSL]Count of Monte Cristo[/UWSL][UWSL], a genre I love reading most with the Jules Verne novels and [/UWSL][UWSL]Gulliver's Travels. [/UWSL]
[UWSL]Watching [/UWSL][UWSL]how they set up the revenge orchestrated by the Count who came to seek vengeance on all that wronged him two decades ago was so meticulously, you'll forever relish seeing it all unfold at the end.[/UWSL]
My score: 10/10
Score by the audience on MyAnimeList: 8.16
Any criticism of mine would be nitpicking to the overall story.
But here are some of the problems, just inconsequential spoilers to the main story.
You must simply watch this French tale of revenge, @Mentally lost cel, or at least one of its many other film adaptions here if you don't wish to watch the anime.

Gankutsuou
In the year 5053, French aristocrats Viscount Albert de Morcerf and Baron Franz d'Epinay attend the festival of Carnival on the moon city of Luna. While Franz is just looking to have fun, Albert is seeking something more to fill his life—but he finds more than he bargained for in The Count of...

But here are some of the problems, just inconsequential spoilers to the main story.
In the first episode, there's[UWSL] a transexual character in the first episode not seen in the novel or film adaption; however, nothing ever serious happens with him, "he" was a part of some plot by a criminal gang to kidnap Viscount Albert for a hefty ransom. There's also another questionable scene where the main character kisses the Count's cheek: this is just something a part of French culture only be regarded as one of their customary greetings, [/UWSL][UWSL]La Bise[/UWSL][UWSL].
