Waitresses consider it part of their job to be flirty with male customers. Then behind closed doors they complain about being ogled, and wear fake wedding rings to discourage customers from asking them on dates (I heard this while eavesdropping).
My one friend is so pathetic that he actually chooses restaurants by how hot the waitresses are. Despite me saying otherwise, he's even become convinced that one waitress is legitimately hitting on him (because she remembered seeing us before).
But even me, the king of cynicism, can't completely escape the flirtatious nature of waitresses. Today one made prolonged eye-contact with me, smiling and talking about her life. Even though I knew she was working me her body language triggered dopamine squirts in my brain, and I couldn't help but wonder if she really wanted me to ask her out. But of course she did not, she turned the flirty-ness on and off with me, and I saw her chatting up other tables too.
After I left the restaurant I looked in my car mirror, and confirmed that I was still extremely ugly.
