Chris Swanson’s story will always hunt me. He was a lonely teacher who endured many years of loneliness. From what I read, one of his female students once confided in him about certain struggles she was facing. Both Chris and the student started to develop feelings towards one another. However, her parents would later know about this relationship and report it to school. As a result, Chris was not only denied the romantic love he craved for so long, but was also denied his profession as he was fired. This was reflected in his depressing statement, “I cannot be with the one I love, I cannot do the work I love. There is no hope, the dream is lost. I'm trapped in this Hideous world, where the twin demons of Loneliness and Despair torment, where the Longing desiccates, where tears fall without end.” The suffocating despair would unfortunately lead him to take his own life at the university his oneitis student was attending after graduating high school. It makes me sad thinking about the possibility that those who fired him are probably enjoying their normal everyday life, not thinking about the fact that they contributed to his demise. Even his oneits student has probably long forgotten about him by now. What was his crime? Being in love? If the argument is that it could affect the professional relationship between them as teacher and student, then the school administration could’ve transferred him to another class or even fired him from the school, but that was not what happened. He was no longer allowed to practice the profession of teaching anymore. You’d think he sold drugs to her. Unbelievable. And if the argument is the age of consent then I’m not even gonna reduce myself into engaging with such extreme low level “arguments.” Suffice to say that if you think there is a difference between a 17 and an 18 year old in the ability to consent then no rational argument can change your feminist clouded worldview. To me, the feminist influenced laws and norms are to blame for his death. May the feminists get what they deserve in this world.
