I was going to say that men didn't have to provide for women but were still driven to impregnate as many as possible, and thus this argument is slightly invalidated (although I am not quick to dispute reliable scientific findings). But if this were the case, the women wouldn't have survived while pregnant either, leading to them and their offspring dying and none of their genes being passed on. So I suppose men had (in some particular circumstances) more power in the dating market than previously thought, not today though.
