I meant degenerate in a mental and spiritual way, not a sexually moralist one. Buddhism and even Christianity has a lot more potential for profound thought, spiritual and philosophical exploration than does Islam. Islam is a religion that saves you from thinking and thus it keeps the human mind in an infantile, or perhaps rather stunted, undeveloped state (excluding such thinkers as Avicenna, Rumi etc, naturally).

Agreed, Islam is short on spiritual content. The closest thing to it in Christianity would probably be some 17th century sect of iconoclastic Puritans.

Islam is not theologically much different than Christianity. Both of them share a many common things. Mohammed was basically a christian, he used to follow the nestorian school/schism of eastern orthodox church (before announcing his prophethood). His mentor was monk Bahira (monk Sergius).
