It's interesting how every 'extreme' nationalist movement, has the same narrative arc script, but localized to their context.
For this thread I will use Salafism, Neo Nazism, and Han Ultranationalism as comparison.
The Glorious Past:
Salafism: Wants to follow idealized version of how Prophet Muhammad and his companions lived.
Neo-Nazism: Glorifies the past of Roman Empire or even British empire days.
Han Ultranationalism: Glories 5000 years of history.
The Fall:
Salafism: Says the west is constantly humiliating them, that their people are being degenerated by traitors (innovation of Islam) and western values.
Neo-Nazism: Says racemixing, foreigners, and liberal values are degenerating the whites (the west has fallen!)
Han Ultranationalism: Says the nation was humiliated by world's great powers
The Struggle:
Salafism: Says there must be continuous Jihad (struggle) until the world is Islamic.
Neo-Nazism: Says everyone must kampf (struggle) to build the ethnostate.
Han Ultranationalism: Says everyone must Dòuzhēng (struggle) to strengthen the state and the nation.
The Rejuvenation:
Salafism: Says global utopia will return to the Prophet days
Neo-Nazism: Says there will be superpower white ethnostate.
Han Ultranationalism: Says that it will return to being the center of the world again; ultranationalists love the official slogan Great Rejuvenation Of The Chinese Nation.
Reactionary Modernism (old values, new tech, hybrid aesthetic):
Salafism: Mohammad Atta studied modern architecture engineering so he can build traditional Islamic architecture with modern methodology and metallurgy.
Neo-Nazism: Fantasizes about RETVRN to traditions, to working in the farms, with advanced farming equipment and futuristic sky cities.
Han Ultranationalism: Perhaps the only one realized; they glorify the skylines with Feng Shui holes drilled in, robots with traditional clothings dancing on national TV, etc.
