“White album 2” if you have patience/“Sugar style” for a more slice of life, comedic and romance genre/Cross Channel less mainstream one but its deff worth a read (less romance more psychological shiet)
aselia the eternal is really good, well written isekai plot. plus it has jrpg mechanics which are cool. very hard tho dont start it if you dont like hardcore strategy games

yeah the prologue does come off as that on most people’s first read. The prologue itself is supposed to be re-played after finishing the main story (chapter 2-7). After that the prologue will actually start making sense. What really makes it special for me is the message in it and the characters.
When you say MOON, do you mean the game by Tactics put out in '97? The one worked on by Jun Maeda himself?

MOON was legit along with one e kagayaku kisetsu
when they turned into Key, the quality got a lot worse (Kanon, Air, etc)
I don't want to sound like a hater but it's overhyped by larpers to oblivion. It's super edgy and chuuny. I feel like it has little to offer by how popular it is. I can't say the same for Full metal daemon muramasa as it's really good, albeit i have some personal dislikes about it.
OP i recommend White Album 2, It's one of the most beautiful pieces of media, if you like Drama and romance you won't get dissapointed.
Theres a lot of edgy “deep” vns its just confusing how suba got chosen out of all of them considering theres the “problematic” aspect of it normfags clitty leak over. White album 2 is a good recommend but its very long for a new reader and takes some time to get to the good parts read if patience is good
I'm not too sure why it's so popular, it truly blows mi mind how can it be spoken in the same sentences as the bigs of the genre like fata morgana, muramasa, umineko, etc. I try to give them a fair chance and i also try to not let my bias and likes cloud my judgement, but i can't fathom what's so good about it.
You do have a point, still i feel like it takes a special kind of person to get into vns. So if you enjoy reading and good fiction, i feel like it won't be too troublesome.
