Easy, India has nuclear weapons, in a conflict with China, which is also a nuclear power, the United States would get involved. Why? India is anti-China and has vast reserves of manpower is pretty nationalistic + a much younger population compared to China.
Also, a war between India and China, would likely involve Pakistan as they are allied with China. Either India would preemptively attack Pakistan or China would coax Pakistan into attacking India so as to have a two front war in China's favor. Note that Pakistan also has nuclear weapons.
In a war between three nuclear powers, there's no way the rest of the world doesn't get involved. Now you have the second most populous country in the world + the most powerful military in the world (USA + friends) fighting against China and maybe Pakistan.
China could single handily destroy India if nukes aren't involved, but China can't take on 3 or 4 armies on at once, they just can't.
