I've done it a few times. I actually don't like using bottles because it is too annoying to aim straight down the hole and more often than not I'm pissing more than what the bottle actually holds so I have to use two bottles in that case.

I prefer to use jugs or cups or jars. Lately I've just been using a pee cup since it is wide and the cup is large enough for the volume of liquid I am going to expel. Only problem with pee cups is if you tip them over just slightly then everything falls over. Another con is if you have bad smelling urine then the air around the cup gets smelly whereas with pee bottles you can contain that smell until you empty them out. I haven't knocked one over yet but I'm sure it's coming.
