I know that this is a weird question, but hear me out. I just opened my Facebook and the first post was from a local group where someone wrote that a van driver hit a cat and killed her. Apparently, the driver fled the scene, and the poster is looking for the owner of the cat.
I opened the comments, and of course, you have the typical enraged people, slamming the driver. To be honest, I don't drive, but my first thought was that he probably didn't even notice the cat. My second thought was that it's just a cat, and a cat isn't nearly as important as a dog.
I might be biased because my mom has a dog, and I love the dog. It's a very large dog breed, so he weighs about as much as a woman. I would be devastated if anything happened to him, but we keep him on a leash and just let him roam in our big garden, so chances of an accident happening to him are low. Also, he is a very gentle boi.
Cats, however, are very self-centered creatures, and a lot of people here let cats roam free, sometimes not knowing where they are for days. They claim it's in their nature, and that might be true, but if an animal is allowed to roam the streets of a big city all night and day, why should I be sad if it died?
