To me, the idea a woman could like a man beyond his looks and surface value is so baffling, I can't even trick my mind into enjoying these stories anymore. Its like trying to get into religious music as an atheist - you can understand what's going on, but can't enjoy it because its content and message are not true. It especially sucks cause you can't return to content you use to enjoy.

An exception to this: content that's purely saccharine in nature, so the couple goes through no real conflict. There's no great test for the woman to be there with him in his most dire moments, things are always good. Then yeah, I can believe if there were no problems, love wouldn't collapse because of those problems that don't exsist.

It depends. I usually can ignore it as it's fiction, and i can cope myself that personality plays a part. As everyone is gorgeous in media.

If it's a movie or somethng like that it gets harder. But usually i'm not into romances and shit.

Like 99% of music is about romance. Luckily the music I listen to is mostly about the composition so you can kinda ignore the lyrics.

No, just a huge reminder of everything I’m missing out on but other guys get to experience like it’s no big deal

I love reading romance manga in particular. Since they're 2D, I don't feel mogged or like I'm missing out because it's complteley fictional and would never happen irl

I can't.
It either physically hurts me, or mind-numbingly bores me.

Planetes seemed beautiful to me, because I like Space stuff.
And then I find out that it's filled with romance and characters jealous and lusting on each other.

Romance ruins literally everything.

I would and rarely do, but most romance has some in-your-face bluepilled nonsense or some feminist / gynocentric / misandrist undertones that you can't ignore once you have been made aware of them.

Especially in manga. Don't remeber where exactly, but I read one not too long ago where a boy was prostrating himself in front of a girl out of his league because he had been caught... having feeling for her. To inconvenience her with the knowledge that she was secretly desired by someone below her in SMV was simply a shameful burden to put on this poor girls soul.

And obviously none of them ever touch any modern dating stats or related topics, so that's another source of frustration and anger while reading them.

If I randomly stumble upon one that fits my preferances nicely I might enjoy it, but that is almost never the case.

some romance anime and shows can be really good and give me some kind of hope. I try not to think about the reality of it too much though.

Yes. Because anime romance is so unrealistic it doesn't register as painful. Even the chaddest of chads don't experience wholesome things like this.

Straight up, 2D > 3DPD
