My grandpa taught me how to play chess when I was about 4 or 5 years old. I learned the moves, but I was never particularly interested in the game until I went through a chess phase around 16 and tried to get good at it by playing against others. It turned out that I'm not particularly good at it. If I was, I would probably have been much more interested in it as a small child when I learned it, like most chess grandmasters such as Fischer or Capablanca.

Never played it

Yes, it's not particularly hard to learn the basics. I'm a shit player though

I think i know most basic rules but not all. But i never play it.

I'd say I am average at playing chess.

I can even tie my shoes I’m too retarded for chess.

I was playing it a bit today. I tried getting into it at the start of this year but haven't made a ton of progress when it comes to getting better at it. I've been going through phases of playing a decent amount of it for a couple days and then not touching it for a while this whole year. I'm 700 elo on chess.com

My elo was around yours when I stopped playing several years ago and is probably lower now. I basically quit chess in HS after losing an irl game to a classmate who was also the class clown, which made it even more embarrassing for me.

I've been trying to teach myself how to play chess for a while now, but I don't think I have the braincells to learn it. Bought videogames that promised to help me learn, but I always forget the rules and movements. That's what being a retard like me is all about.

Yes but I can never focus long enough unless I drink alot of coffee, weird enough.

Don't bother. Chess is only for those who start learning it at a very young age. It's kind of like learning languages.

And it's a lot LOT LOT of study and work to get good. Absolutely not worth it unless you have a burning passion for the game.

I used to be pretty good but I haven't played in a while. I used to do chess club in school and I pretty much always got 1st or 2nd place in the tournaments. Then again, most people in that club were terrible at chess. If going against skilled players I doubt I'd have won

Used to be very good as a kid, now i suck

yes but i only play 1 minute chess cause i'm too impatient to wait for the other person

Can you guys play blindfold chess? I once saw it in a TV series between two characters and felt so brain mogged.

Fuck no. You need a copious amount of autism to do that

well i’d only learn it to be a casual and for the sake of learning it

I used to be 1600 elo on chess.com. kinda ok I guess.

Yes. Even participated in a few tournaments.

I know the rules and that’s about it

Not well, but I could. It's just memorizing moves and having a zillion games stuck in your head.

Checkerscels unite.

Yes but I only know the basics like how to move the pieces, when it comes to what strategies are good I have no idea.

I used to, but I forgor most of it, only remember that the horse goes in an L shape.

I only played 2 times in a mandatory activity when I was in elementary school, the only things I can't remember are the moves of the towers

That's true for pretty much any skill... Nothing wrong with starting late unless you want to compete in world class level or make a profession out of it.

I haven't played it in years.

No, I forgot how to play, I've not played in years

I know the rules but I don't plan in getting further in chess cause I hear the chess community is terrible

My father learned to play chess at school and he is an exceptional player.

However when I had asked him to teach me so we could play together he'd told me that chess is basically bullshit.

He had said that once you learn and memorize all the moves it is basically about who is better at recalling / remembering the right move at the right time.

Still though, he never taught me.

Since he is an electrician, I had asked him to teach me some of that, to basically pass it on to me.
And of course he also refused to do that.

If I were a father I would be happy and proud if my some wanted to do what I loved.

What an idiot he is.

Never tried

I don't see any appeal to it

I've played it a few times and always lost.

yeah, pretty okey at it.
