I don't mind helping my mom in the garden, but I never understood why she spends hundreds of bucks on flowers every years. They look nice for a moment, but they'll die eventually. I'd rather spend the money on something useful for the family.

Yes, it was fun growing interesting or unusual plants that you would rarely see otherwise, but I no longer live in a place that lets tenants have space for plants.

I actually did this in my youth in holidays in summer. But I never really got to the point where I loved doin it, it was just the best opportunity at the time

I know that feeling, once I nearly cried because my cat threw one of my plants on the ground, which resulted in the plant to die.
Plants are really poor beeings if you think about, they cant run away from pain, they cant cry for help and they live in constant danger to be eaten alive

Maybe my mother is more similar to your grandparents then. She's the type of person who needs the garden to be neat so that the neighbors won't talk about it behind our backs. Meanwhile, she likes to comment on it when someone's garden is a mess. To be honest, if I inherited a house with a garden, I'd only do the bare minimum in the garden. If a neighbor complained, I wouldn't give a fuck.
