It's the greenhouse effect. Apparently Venus used to be like Earth with an abundance of water but due to the closer proximity to the sun it heated up. The sun is expanding and as it gets bigger it by default stretches closer to earth. Regardless if humans speed the process or not, the sun will eventually destroy the planet. Unfortunately this will be long after we live our pathetic lives.
