So I have extra gums basically. Like extra flesh on my gums and they harbor bacteria and give me infections. I might have to go get my gums lasered off . I FUCKING HATE THE DENTIST!

my mother told me this while driving home. Idk what to believe. I don't wanna be an asshole to a professional but maybe something is wrong.

If it doesn't hurt then there's not much a point in paying for that

I was half-joking—although I did just recently rant about how often modern-day dentists will scam their patients... well, I do suppose it depends. First of all, what race was your dentist? If it was a jeet, I'd unironically just assume that he's trying to swindle you for your money, as that has almost exclusively been my experience with jeet dentists. The last one I went to tried to unironically tell me that I had fourteen cavities despite having like two.

Secondly, if you're really worried about it, I'd actually just get a second opinion, maybe a third considering how untrustworthy dentists are these days. Of course, that's only if you can. I'd imagine that if you're like me and have your mother pay for the visits and everything else, you probably would have a hard time convincing your mother.

Either way, I don't think the problem is too bad? It doesn't sound that severe—or at least, not in the sense that you have to get it treated immediately lest it devolve into a worse problem. It might be time to start improving your oral hygiene if you haven't already, though... that was the case with me.
