You've heard these phrases before: "just be yourself"
"Confidence is key"
"Women/girls don't care about looks as much as you think"
"No one cares about height"
"Just be kind"
"Take good care of your hygiene"
And worst of all: "just don't be a misogynist"
That last one irks me the most because as soon as people find out that I'm a 34 year old virgin, they assume that it's because I'm misogynistic. Yeah, that makes sense, "he's never been wanted by the opposite sex so that must mean he's misogynistic, it's bulletproof logic!" As for the other things I listed, it's possible to spend your whole life adhering them and still fail with women, source: MY LIFE! If there's an IT user reading this who's thinking about saying: "being a good person doesn't entitle you to sex" well, way to jump to conclusions buddy! I never said anything about being "deserving" or "worthy" of sex, all I did was point out that the "advice" people commonly give is severely flawed. I say it's flawed because I've been subconsciously following it since birth (being myself, watching my hygiene, being empathetic, hiding behind the veil of confidence) and yet, I would get friendzoned every time I told a girl about my feelings for her. I haven't done so since I was 21 and don't plan on ever attempting it again because I've learned my lesson after the hundreds of rejections I've faced and that's not counting online dating. I've been "self improving" since I was a teen so don't pull that BS phrase on me, it's impossible to finish self improvement as there's always another level to reach so you'd better not come at me asking why it's taking so many years to self-improve. I've been doing it consistently and still, no success with women! I wonder why...(hint: deformed face)
