If some thug comes up to you with a gun or knife and threatens you and you fight back and kill him, you get investigated out the ass to see if it was "justified". You get a taste of this in high school when Tyrone and Chad bullies you and gets away with it because the male teachers want to be him and the female teachers are fucking him. There was some old guy in the USA who had some little shit teen chad and some slut girlfriend he had kept trying to break into his house so he waited for them to break in and shot both of them dead. He was arrested for that.
