I agree that feeling sorry for yourself or raging at "modern society" is cope. Trillions of animals have failed to reproduce or been wiped out in history, we are simply victims of natural selection. That this process is, to an extent, random and unfair doesn't change anything. Any selective process is going to be somewhat arbitrary and unfair.
Nobody remembers or mourns the thousands of living, thriving species wiped out at the same time as the dinosaurs by this gigantic meteorite. They are gone. Gone from memory, gone from sight. As if they never existed. Despite all their intrinsic qualities and merits. That's the laws of the universe for you.
But I think we still need to support ourselves morally, because it is undeniably painful to be in this situation. And it is even worse to be gaslighted into thinking it's your own fault on the way out.
