Cats don't make nearly as much noise as stupid, constantly barking dogs, and they usually keep their distance from you. Mutts, on the other hand, are intrusive and far more dangerous.
I've never heard of a cat mauling anyone or anything like that. Meanwhile, there are regular reports of dogs injuring or even killing people.
Cats kill mice and rats, which is useful.
