Discussion Boss fights are the worst part of videogames

It often feels like the boss is the worst part of a game, which is why the game often feels anti climactic by the end credits. We play the majority of a game through exploration then all of a sudden we are thrust into some boxed off section against some giant arse monstrosity that looks like blended dogshit with playdough.

By which point I just want the game done with, especially when he spawns 3 hell spartans out his arse with fresh health bars. Some games obviously have memorable encounters like classic GOW or souls games but for many games the bosses feel like a burden, especially if the gameplay is shit to begin with.

Interesting take. There are definitely some games where the boss fights are very meh and anti climatic but it's always nice to have that final stand and conclusion as the credits inevitably roll.

many for sure do it wrong.
they break up the pacing and there are many things that can ruin a boss fight for me
for one, they are usually too easy (like DOOM)
2, they are overly telegraphed (attacks or body parts glow like crazy)
3, they sometimes show pop-up hints/ tutorials
4, they sometimes dont require any skill at all, just trial and error or memorization
5, raid bosses imo are usually overall good, but maybe half of them rely too much on communication mechanics, rather than gameplay mechanics.

Boss fights are my favorite part of a lot of games. Sometimes, I will save right before so I can replay them over and over.
