Among heart failure patients, loneliness was associated with a nearly 4 times increased risk of death, 68% increased risk of hospitalization, and 57% increased risk of emergency department visits. (This isn't because someone didn't call 911. Loneliness in this context is the feeling of being alone, regardless of the amount of social contact)
