Majority of people still believe or used to believe at some point of their lives that being funny is one of the key points for attraction. Fairy tale goes from generation to generation, and propably that's why so many comedians are ugly after all. Okay, i was searching for some data concerning the topic and it was surprisingly easy to find.
One more article and highly recommended to read, not only it reconfirms everything which has been said in previous section, it gives a few new interesting points.
If being funny doesn't make up for being ugly i don't know what else does. I'll be periodically updating thread with related studies and articles as long as i may find them
Women really do like men who make them laugh, study finds
...but 'ambivalent sexism' could be to blame, as the reverse is not true

Fair enough. Still goes along the lines of what our parents used to tell us. Make her laugh and she will love you. Maybe personality matters after all, if we are foolish enough to believe it still does? I was searching for more data and it turns out this associate professor was not necessarily wrong, but he never considered everything that follows:Jeffrey Hall, an associate professor of Communication Studies at the University of Kansas, found that when two strangers meet, the more times a man tries to be funny and a woman laughs, the more likely she is to be interested in dating.
Why being attractive makes your jokes funnier: Women admit they laugh more with handsome men
Psychologists at the University of Stirling have discovered that good-looking people were perceived as funnier when the people listening could see if they were attractive or not.

Oh no, looks like our professor might be misplaing cause and effect badly in previous study. Not only he might be, he actually did that, as suggest two more articles below. And mind you, women seldom admit their blackpilled nature, as they like to seem better than they are, but this one, apparently, was so obvious they couldn't cover it up.Why being attractive makes your jokes funnier: Women admit they laugh more with handsome men

Why being good-looking makes you funnier
Research shows that the amount a couple laughs is not based upon the quality of humour, but rather how much they fancy each other

Daters should not worry about having a good sense of humour - if their partners find them attractive they'll laugh at their jokes anyway, a neuroscientist at University College London claims.
But intriguingly, the amount a couple laughs is not based upon the quality of their witty repostes or well-timed one liners, but rather how much they like each other.
Makes sense, since other primates laugh only when interacting with each other, and so they use it to signal what they think about other members of the group.Laughter is very much part of our evolutionary history, it's in our make-up. When we're talking to each other we drop into this old mammal behaviour to show how we actually feel about each other.
Are funny people sexy ... or are sexy people funny? | Dean Burnett
Dean Burnett: Humour is often considered a very attractive trait in a potential partner. But does the science support this?

'Nuff saidDepressingly for those who believe being funny can compensate for being physically unattractive, that seems to only work up to a point. An interesting study by Cowan and Little, which looked at humour and attractiveness found that physically attractive people were deemed to be “funnier” than less attractive people when the subjects could see the speaker. When presented with audio only, this effect wasn’t so pronounced.
