A self-fulfilling prophecy is a psychological phenomenon where an initially false belief or expectation leads to behaviors that cause that expectation to come true.
I've always felt I was boring and unworthy of attention. I am deathly afraid of being listened to. I never speak for more than 20s at a time, because I feel as if I am stealing people's attention away and not rewarding them with an interesting enough thought as a return.
This has always haunted me. Back when I had outlets for socialization like school, I'd make a "friend", they'll be more extroverted than me, I'd start feeling as if I'm too boring for them, so I'll start shutting myself off, then I'll end up becoming truly boring as a result of this belief. I've lost many "friends" this way.
But the more I overhear what normal people talk about daily, the more I realize they're boring as fuck. Then I become infuriated with envy over the fact that these people who are more boring than me speak so much more and feel no shame over it.
Is this common?
