I think the rise of feminism and women entering the workforce and this woke ideology of being a "strong, independent women" has contributed to it.

But probably also the fact that compared to those times, life has become easier for white suburban families.

To top it off with the rise of movies like Twilight, 50 shades of grey, the rise of high-speed internet pornography has caused shift of perspective. Now the emphasis is put more on a man's body than what he can offer financially or status wise.
