Was my favorite anime as a kid, especially the kai season. Haven't gotten around to doing a full rewatch bc adhdcel, but I have fond memories of it nonetheless. Would go to the library to download new episodes on my ipad because I didn't have wifi at home:feelsLSD:

I have watched the first season of deen's higurashi, but I'm still waiting until I have time to finish the vn (already read some chapters). I just don't want major spoilers, and I'd watch the second season and stuff after.
And yes, even by looking at, old anime feels superior to the gou/sotsu just by style and atmosphere alone

Nigga sees all the Rika posts on this forum and still asks this :feelskek:

Have read it and seen 1st 2 seasons plus a couple ovas, also working way through Umineko very slowly when I get the urge

Very memeable but mid imo

I recently watched the first anime including the second season, Kai, recently. I actually originally stumbled upon Higurashi when I was a 8 year old kidcel, but it quickly got memory holed. I rediscovered the series after dropping Umineko, because that VN was honestly pretty boring.

I played the Higurashi VN with PS2 sprites, OG backgrounds, OG music, and no voice acting

One of, if not the, best multimedia experience I have ever had

Legit extremely terrifying in parts, very effective psychological horror. The VN format (when executed properly, which is rare) is extremely engrossing, you get into it more so than with an anime, movie, video game, etc. Basically, it activates your brain like reading a book does, plus music and some basic graphics, so it has a very strong emotional pull.

a shame the follow-up series Umineko is nowhere near as good. Bloated with way too many hateable characters and a nonsensical plot

@weaselbomber obligatory tag whenever a VN is mentioned lol

it's one of the best vns and it's a shame the new animated remake was a steaming pile of dogshit

too much fanservice and weird shit going on
satoko rolling in the mud like a pig was supposed to be a big oh shit serious plot point :feelsugh:

It was good when i was young, got fucking frightened by the scenes. Later on as an adult i started reading the VN, a much better experience.

Would add if anyone wants to check out, Umineko no naku koro ni. A banger of a Visual novel, the twists are something else
