Me. My username is based on one character from one piece. I started at middle school watching it on pirate dvds, then on pirate sites on the internet. Im 35 so the "much episodes" problem didn't apply, cause I watched everything on time.
Worth watching, I don't know the hate. If you love adventure, battles and political criticism, it's for you. Also, the story connects all the points that can be loose at first breath. Only bad thing is Luffy, cause he is brainless, but is complemented by his crew.
The thing is, One Piece requires patience, cause it start as a normal adventure story, but then, their progression make the story more and more complex (not Proust, of course, but still cool). Most people dropp at Skypeia arc and I understand cause the story has a slow pace and no action, but thats cause it works as lore expantion and the importance of oral tradition in civilizations.
1000+ episodes are intimidating, and personally, If I was like, idk, 15 or 20 years old, I will not watching it (despite the fact I have the time to do it, lol).
One PIece is now in their final arc. No matter how the final will be, the hype is so high, that will not complace anyone.
