Depends what you're into but for some rpgs: Rhapsody Musical Adventure, Ys Origin, parasite Eve, Koudelka/Shadow Hearts, vandal hearts, Valkyrie profile. If you like platformers try mischief makers, Dr slump (PS1), horror try Kuon, clock tower. There's some more I'm sure but I can't think of them right now.

Ys Origin is legit
Rez on PS2 it's like a rail shooter/rhythm game, Killer7 it's a stylized FPS. Odin Sphere, Okage, Namco X Capcom, these are all different kinds of RPGs. Haunting Ground is a horror game (also Kuon is on PS2), Klonoa 2 is a platformer. Idk if this is considered niche but the Shin Megami Tensei games (Nocturne, Digital Devil Saga) are all really good difficult turn base RPGs if you're into that.

Berzerk, Dynamite Headdy, NiGHTS, Shenmue, Jet Set Radio, Phantasy Star Online... I'll go forwards to like 2012 because that's basically before modern era. So I'd recommend Fear 2, Universe At War, I Am Alive... that's probably enough so I don't totally overwhelm, lol
