I want to switch to Linux, just about finished the Cisco course for Linux operating systems. All the zip stuff, tar, create a folder, file, user permissions etc etc etc. Tired of these constant Windows updates.

What are your experiences with Linux? According to the course I am doing there are many Linux systems to choose from thats why I want to ask for your feedback. I suppose older versions are no longer supported but perhaps way more user friendly and stable than current systems?

Anyway chip in and help me make a good beginner friendly choice to install on my laptop. After I become profecient at using Linux I will change to the latest version and stuff like that. Maybe eventually even contribute with sone features.

Its gay, not user friendly. Only good for pro's. Otherwise, stick with Windows

I've been using only Linux for about 10 years now, but I'm not a power user or anything
modern versions are generally more user friendly, have modern UI and all
I started with Ubuntu which is the classic newbie Linux distro, now I use Manjaro which imo is also very newbie friendly

its good for crashing through cybersecurity kali linux does a lot more damage than you think

PureOS or Mint.

Have you hacked anything ever?
im very low iq so no but I heard its good and thats why im planning on mastering it after I finish college so I can shut those redditfucks up

If you use Linux you'll still need to update constantly. And not only the OS you have to update the programs too because they will break after you update the OS.
Linux does not have backwards compatibility. Everything is changing every other month and things get obsolete with a ridiculous speed.
On windows I can easily use a setup file to install a program I downloaded 5 years ago and it will work perfectly.
On Linux you don't even have setup files. You have packages but they have dependencies and those dependencies have dependencies. There is no equivalent of a setup file. If it's not in the repository then you're basically fucked. And even if you have the package from 5 years ago and also the dependencies if you try to install it I guarantee it will not work because like I said Linux doesn't have backwards compatibility. You are limited to what is available at the repository at the moment.
Linux actually has far less freedom compared to Windows. It's just retarded soy faggots making propaga.
The only reason you should use it is if you can't afford windows or if the updates are getting REALLY REALY REALLY annoying.
I never had an issue with updates cause we use cracked windowses here, so we use the pro/enterprise version which let's you disable update.

The only reason I don't use Linux is hardware support, windows automatically installs most of the drivers in windows update but in Linux you have to install them yourself, I don't play games but there are still a few propriety software that I found no good open source replacement: Photoshop, Internet download manager, my VPN desktop app, etc

I currently use win10 LTSC 2021 which doesn't have all the Microsoft goy (you can install MS store later and install them if you want), I even completely uninstalled Edge and installed Firefox, It also gets no feature updates, only security updates (CIA spyware) but you can postpone or even disable them because it gives you full admin access unlike in win10 home and pro which gets reverted to default

I have a 50Gb partition to test out Linux in the remaining years I can use LTSC, because there ain't no fucking way I'm installing any new Windows, I tested w11 and it was the most shitty and most sluggish OS ever

About Linux distros, I tried Fedora and Mint, Both were good, Mint is more user friendly because it comes with a lot of things preinstalled, there even is an app for installing nvidia drivers which makes it easy, but Mint is better for older machines because it's based off ubunto LTS which is updated every few years. if you have newer hardware fedora is better imo
Based

I only use window's I don't use shit apple products

ok thanks.

I think your way of doing things is actually a good way forward. Partition enough storage for both and first get good at Linx before totaly switching over. Or just use both.

Yeah this is a major issue constantly updating all Linux hardware.

:feelsjuice: The biggest issue is that people install Linux expecting a lighter better spinoff of windows but the mechanism of Linux is completely different
:feelsthink:

:feelsjuice: Linux only has more privacy (it doesn't sell you out to american government and 3rd parties like windows), it does not have more freedom (only if you consider being able to delete system files and nuke the whole OS "freedom"), in fact the great compatibility of windows you explained is freedom which Linux lacks
:feelsthink:

That being said I'm still gonna fight big evil corps and will switch to linux in a few years
:bigbrain::bigbrain::bigbrain:

i think its pretty user friendly
i installed it on my aunt's laptop because she keeps getting malwares
programs being big icons on a menu like android, and files being simple (drop docs in docs, pic in pics etc) make it vert easy to use

This and also I am mastering Data science and AI and Websites as a user Interface for my programms. Done alot of the prerequisites already. Python, , Excel, all the Machine Learning stuff, some of the AI and of course maths, statistics, probablity, algorithms and data structures, aprogramming language for back end stuff like C#.

Besides SQL, statistics and Maths I also need Linux skills for AI because any software that I programm must be Linux compatible because Android, Web-Servers etc etc etc.

trying to install arch man this shit is irritating, I'm going to use luke smiths git repo. later will try to install my own window manager and play around shit feels soo snappy rather than a windows machine

Another HUGE reason I can't use Linux is because like you said Linux is a dynamic OS which needs updates to work properly and we have shitty censored internet, a lot of repos are either censored by خاممه ای or blocked for Iran's ip from the source, there also is no VPNs that work in Iran for linux, also there is no linux support in Iran and you can't install things offline but we have sites for windows software with huge databases like no other in the world, with windows only the initial update is necessary, you can don't connect to internet and leave your pc for weeks and get back on it and it works fine. And if you don't insert random USBs and install sketchy software and download sketchy files you probably will be ok without an antivirus

Ubuntucel. Someday I will ascend to Archchad

Still on Windows 10, but I mainly just play games so yeah

I use Mint on my old laptop.

Planning on dual booting linux on my windows pc soon.
