I've been considering switching from gmail to gmx but I dunno. Seems OK.

I mean, I use Linux Mint instead of Windows. And I use this site instead of posting on Facebook or X or whatever.

I don't really use the big video streaming sites either. Netflix and Prime and stuff. I find them to be very fussy. About what browser you have to use, sometimes what OS you have to use, what version of the browser, etc. And this is even to watch videos that I BOUGHT! Like on Prime.

DVDs never do this...

Anywho erm, I just wondered if you guys have any recommendations or if you've been using anything good :feelsautistic:

Did you upgrade to Xia (22.1) or are you still using Wilma (22)? I never saw the need to upgrade plus Xia has some annoying ass bugs I don't wanna deal with they both last the same amount of time anyway until 2029 I believe.

I'm not convinced it matters what you're running as long as you're happy with the performance.

If the concern is security... I've only ever gotten an issue with that once in my whole life and that was when I opened a bad file on Windows, but that was my fault for not scanning it.

I do have a firewall or two also and I don't veer far from trusted websites. And I use pretty decent browsers.

Oh don't worry, I have whonix and tails for that if I really wanted to care a lot about my security, most of the time security is kind of just common sense such as don't download suspicious files or click links you don't know about, the only plus side about upgrading linux mint is the enchanced features it provides but they roughly have the same security level.

Still using wilma because I never upgraded.

I don't really like gmx. They have lots of ads and only 1 GB free. But at least they support IMAP now. But it's my main email address nevertheless and it works.

Hmm, I mostly use Windows, but also Ubuntu on some of my devices. But it's a wise choice. And I am neither on Facebook nor X, but on Reddit. Tried to switch to Lemmy for some time but well, didn't. That could be a good option. I am using Signal instead of WhatsApp for everyone who has it.

I honestly mostly pirate, but don't watch too many movies. I do use YT though, which is big tech. Maybe I should try to switch.

I'm literally sitting here using MATE on an ancient computer so I probably wouldn't notice new features lol

I have this strange pet peeve about messengers that require a phone number but I dunno why!

I guess it just feels unnecessary to me. An unnecessary complication, and also it means it's harder to get working on a desktop and also if I have an issue with my phone or network it might stop working.

It's so odd how BitChute and Rumble have added very aggressive adverts recently.

Odysee doesn't though so I tend to use that.

True. What messenger do you use, if any?

Thanks for recommending me some alternatives. I might try them out!

Messengers are weird because for the most part... you kind of have to use what everyone else uses. So I just use Facebook and Discord because everyone else uses those and I have no huge issue with either of them, like I do with WhatsApp!

I also use Second Life quite a bit. I know that sounds bad. XD

Cool yeah, no probs ^^
