I was 13, it was a cold Halloween night. We had left our shitty slums and went to nicer neighborhoods as the people were friendlier and gave out more candy. Jfl, I was dressed as the grim reaper. I remember feeling a deep sense of envy and despair at seeing all of these beautiful, amazing homes. The pleasant, happy families. Knowing what I would have to go back home to, the life I would have to return to after this short temporary escape.
We reached this one home, I was the one to knock and say trick or treat. A pale, blonde little girl opened the door, looked to be about 8 or 9. I saw inside the home, it was like a peasant seeing the inside of a castle for the first time, I hated the fact that I couldn’t have that house, that wealthy privileged life. She happily yelled “daddy! We finally got trick or treaters!”.
That’s the only time in my life a girl has been genuinely happy to see me, and it wouldn’t have even happened if I wasn’t in a costume on Halloween
. My face is worse than death itself of course. She returned with her dad, she was holding a basket and I collected my candy and left. I wasn’t really enjoying myself. That family would have a great night in that home, while I go back to my shitty nigger slums and heat up hot pockets or ramen noodles.
Idk, was just thinking about this randomly so I felt like sharing the story.
