A long development time doesn't mean a game will be good

A lot of the time long development times just mean incompetent teams. Take Tears of the Kingdom for example, as previously mentioned it's just a glorified dlc with a few areas and bootleg Minecraft mechanics. Yet it took over 6 years. The reason it took so long is because Nintendo's teams are incompetent at developing anything past Wii/GameCube level as seen with the lack of games released on Wii u, and the bevy of low quality, lazy, or unfinished games on switch.

Another good example is Bethesda. Starfield took forever to develop. Was it a good game? No, it was lazy procedurally generated trash with less freedom than ever before. Bethesda's teams are incompetent at developing and optimizing games which is why it took so long.

Muh long development times don't mean a game will be better. If anything a good team can develop a great game in a much shorter span of time. It's bad teams that take forever to make mediocre games.

I'll take a well made bite sized game over 100GB+ AAAA games

one would think this would be standard knowledge by now since games, especially AAA games, take so long to make yet they're all released broken and unfinished but apparently not

Kingdom Hearts 3....

Nowadays it means development was restarted, putting years of work to waste

There is no game out there im excited to play anymore

how's your game?

Most of the time, it means it will be generic trash

Dead Island one was released in 2011 and sequel in 2023. Game was okay but lacked creativity of the first one and the excitement of anticipation had long gone after so many delays.

It's always hopium. They'll spam the fake Shigeru Miyamoto quote. In reality the opposite is true. If a game is taking long there's a good change the teams behind it aee incompetent.

Sometimes it means that.

True. Ultra safe tested garbage made to pursue whatever trends are popular.

What a joke.

tbh it's been like that since the beginning. A long development is never a good sign

Worst example of this i saw was Duke Nukem Forever, that all spawned the term "development hell"
