They did objectively. The jump between 8 bit SNES games and 3D N64 and PS1 games was impressive as fuck too.

in 90s you had a lot of electronic osts in the games also very upbeat now it's orchestral or some sad snoozefest farts with occasional mumbo jumbo rap

I guess the point I'm making though is that I think it had a very positive and high energy personality even without factoring in nostalgia.

I mean... I know that you can find all different genres these days. For example the Switch has a lot of vaguely similar games.

I'm not sure if it's quite the same though.

I don't think it's about gaming at all really it's about culture.
 
I don't know about this particular music, but most of the 16-bit tracks from this era have a nice vibe. I generally like the aesthetics of 16-bit games.
