I disagree OP. It is very much insecurity - we would be insecure about investing time and money into a foid more likely to cheat on us.

The simple fact to embrace here is that it is OKAY to be insecure.

I've always thought the best analogy for this was Russian Roulette. If I remember the statistics correctly, if a woman has had even one past partner, the odds of long-term successful relationship with her is about 50%. That's only after one partner. And that's equivalent to playing Russian Roulette with 3 bullets in a six-shooter. If she's had 2-5 partners, you can pop another one in there, for 4 total. From about 6-12 past partners, it's like playing Roulette with 5 bullets. Now, no sane person would want to play Russian Roulette with a half-loaded gun, and that certainly doesn't boil down to insecurity; that's just being rational.
