If you have to lie about it, then try to make it sound somewhat painful, blackpilled or angsty like your gf/ONS was bitchy about it, a complete harpy or rejected you after. If people think you're likely to be sexually/romantically unsuccessful, then that might play along with their prejudices and make them more likely to accept it. Alternatively, add some sort of conversation hook or topic which will get them talking or going on tangents rather than questioning your story. It's easy to make some normies nowadays go on long tangents about themselves in the middle of a conversation, they're more addicted to soliloquys than Hamlet.
Or just say you're religious or sth, if you don't know the person well. Then direct the conversation to some shit about your (possibly fictitious) religious practices, dedication or upbringing. You can also pretend you changed schools/cities/countries at some point in your youth, and before that you used to be fairly well-integrated.

I'm a awful lier, so everytime "that" question came up from family or normies, I gave them the honest answer, and got what you expected, literally every single time...
Unsolicited advice, dishonest shock ("You are such a nice guy!", and in the case of my aunts and grandmas "You are literally the most beautiful man on earth"), or weirded out looks followed by them avoiding me.
I actually prefer it that way, honestly. The latter one, I mean... I like to weed out any family or normie acquaintance that thinks dropping a person for being a loveless virgin is okay, and not fucking psychotic.
